Adaptive and inclusive programmes ask software for things it usually cannot do: divisions by functional classification rather than age, registration forms that collect access needs without making a family justify them, scheduling that accounts for transport and support workers, and a record of progress that is not just a scoreline. Ligue is built to be configured that way rather than worked around.
A registration form is the first thing a family meets, and for an adaptive programme it is where most platforms fail them. Ask for classification, mobility and communication needs, support worker details and equipment requirements as ordinary fields, so a parent supplies them once instead of explaining them on the phone to three different coaches.
Group athletes by functional classification, by ability band, by unified pairing — whatever your programme or governing body actually uses — rather than being forced into age brackets that mean nothing here. Divisions carry their own rules, and an athlete’s classification sits on their record where staff can see it.
Sessions have to fit transport windows, support worker availability and venue accessibility, and a change that would be a minor inconvenience elsewhere can stop an athlete attending at all. Schedule against the venues and slots that work, and when something moves, tell the people affected early enough to rearrange transport.
Communication has to reach the person who actually manages the athlete’s week — a parent, a carer, a support worker, sometimes all three. Message the right people rather than a generic team list, with announcements that report delivery so you know an important change landed.
Cost is one of the largest barriers to participation in adaptive sport. Offer instalments, apply scholarships or hardship rates to individual families quietly rather than through a public discount code, and keep the record of who is on what arrangement private to the staff who need it.
Progress in adaptive sport is often measured in attendance, participation and personal bests rather than league position. Attendance per session and records per athlete give a coach and a family something concrete to point at, and give a funder the participation evidence a grant report asks for.
